Abstract

The main objective of this paper was to provide the conceptualisation of entrepreneurship as it was established at the University of Benin. The paper examined the concept of entrepreneurship which has been misunderstood, and provided the dichotomy between business, skill acquisition, vocation and entrepreneurship. The paper reviewed the concept of entrepreneurship, reviewed empirical literature, and examined who is an entrepreneur. The paper provided background to the vision and mission of the establishment of the Department of entrepreneurship in the University. The paper highlighted some areas of entrepreneurship for the reader in agricultural and manufacturing areas, and noted that the list was not exhaustive. The paper concluded that technologies, which cut across the various disciplines in the world, also includes technological entrepreneurship; and they will take the centre stage of development across the world.
